Virtual-Reality model: Transit of a Gas Giant and a Terrestrial planet

This content requires HTML5 & Javascript or Adobe Flash Player Version 9 or higher.

Description For the Kepler space probe to record a transit of a planet across the face of a star, the orbits must be aligned within a very narrow range. Here are a gas giant planet the size of Jupiter orbiting 0.1 AU from a star the size of our Sun and a terrestrial planet orbiting at 0.04 AU, as is a possible planet around Alpha Centauri B. (Zoom in for a better look at the terrestial planet.)
